There is a captivating history to the Cambodia casinos that reside just over the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, where gambling hall gaming is prohibited. Eight gambling halls are situated in a generally small space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia casinos is in a prime area, a three to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai laborers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The astonishing capital gained from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a number of limitations constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; still, financial sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are supposedly necessary to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is true of many borders.
The 1st Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked barge gambling den, highlights one hundred and fifty slot machines and sixty gaming tables. The Naga casino never closes with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of chemin de fer, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly followed. There are one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machines and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and sixty six of the normal tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive resort and hotel compound that features numerous conveniences in addition to the casino, which provides 10,000 square feet of 130 slots and 88 gaming tables.
